Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, the latest mid-range chipset in the Snapdragon 6-series. This processor brings several upgrades, including a new 4nm manufacturing process, improved CPU and GPU performance, and AI enhancements. Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Overview
Manufacturing & CPU
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is the first in the series built on TSMC’s 4nm process, replacing the previous Samsung 4nm and TSMC 6nm nodes. It also introduces ARMv9 CPU cores, featuring:
- 1x Cortex-A720 (2.3GHz) prime core
- 3x Cortex-A720 (2.2GHz) big cores
- 4x Cortex-A520 (1.8GHz) small cores
Qualcomm claims an 11% increase in CPU performance over the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, based on Geekbench 5.2 single-thread scores.
GPU & AI Enhancements
The new Adreno GPU delivers a 29% performance boost compared to its predecessor. In addition, it is 12% more power-efficient. The chipset also introduces INT4 support, improving AI model efficiency. Furthermore, it supports Snapdragon Game Super Resolution for upscaling up to 4K and Adreno Frame Motion Engine for frame rate doubling while optimizing power.
Memory & Storage
The chipset supports up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM (3200MHz) and LPDDR4X (2133MHz) for budget devices. It also includes UFS 3.1 storage support for faster read and write speeds.
Display & Multimedia
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports a 1080p+ resolution display with up to a 144Hz refresh rate. Additionally, it enables external displays via USB-C 3.1 at 4K 60Hz with HDR10+ support. The triple 12-bit ISP allows up to 200MP cameras and 64MP zero shutter lag photography. Video recording capabilities include 4K HDR at 30fps, HEIF photo support, and hardware acceleration for H.265 and VP9, though AV1 is not supported.
Connectivity Features
The chipset comes with a 5G modem that supports sub-6GHz and mmWave bands, offering download speeds up to 2.9Gbps. It also includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive, and triple-frequency GPS positioning (L1/L5/L2).
