Framework, a company known for its upgradability, has just announced that its flagship Laptop 16 will have an option for NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 mobile GPU. And as expected, you'll be able to fit this 5070 module with older Framework Laptop 16 as well. So without further ado, let's dive into everything that is new with the 2025 edition of the Framework Laptop 16.
Framework Laptop 16 2025 Overview:
Design and display
The Laptop 16, as always, has a minimalistic design that combines an aluminum lid with a magnesium base. But Framework says they have revamped the thermal system with new heatsinks, fan blades, and more this time.
And as its name suggests, it has a 16-inch display up front. You're looking at an IPS panel with a WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution, a fast 165Hz refresh rate, and an anti-glare finish. Not to mention, it also boasts 100% DCI-P3 colors, a 9ms response time, and 500 nits of peak brightness. Whereas if you pair it with the NVIDIA card, it will come with G-SYNC support.
Performance
As I mentioned earlier, the Framework Laptop 16 can now be configured with an RTX 5070 mobile GPU. That thing has 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM and up to 100W TGP. But if you don't wanna join team NVIDIA, Framework also lets you pair it with 2nd-gen AMD Radeon RX 7700S graphics with 8GB GDDR6 memory and the same 100W TGP.
Getting to the CPU, you can choose from a couple of AMD "Strix, Krackan Point" processors for the Framework Laptop 16 2025.
So there's either the Ryzen AI 7 350 with 8 cores, 16 threads, and an octa-core Radeon 860M iGPU. Or if you want more horsepower, there's the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with 12 cores, 24 threads, and a 16-core Radeon 890M integrated graphics.
In terms of memory, this laptop has two SO-DIMM slots that can take up to 96GB of DDR5-5600 RAM. It gets a little interesting with the storage, though. Since its primary storage option uses an M.2 2280 socket that can house up to an 8TB SSD. While its secondary storage option uses a smaller M.2 2230 socket capable of rocking a 2TB SSD at best.

Unfortunately, the Framework Laptop 16 2025 still uses the 85 Wh battery as the original Laptop 16. But I really love that they have introduced a new, compact 240W GaN USB-C power adapter that is USB Power Delivery 3.1 compatible. Making Framework, the first laptop maker to ship a 240W USB-C power adapter for its devices.
And of course, flexibility is one of my favorite things about Framework laptops. With six selectable expansion cards, I can add ports based on my exact needs. Whether I need a high-speed USB 4 connection, USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, or Ethernet. This guy even ships with an AMD RZ717 WiFi 7 module now that supports the 6 GHz band.
Rest of the updates
Other than this, the Framework Laptop 16 2025 has new keyboard designs for both Linux and Windows users. Along with an updated keyboard firmware for preventing accidental wake-up. This update will be available to users with the 1st Gen keyboard as well, although you should know these are still 1.5mm keys.
The laptop now also includes the 2nd Gen webcam module with a 1080p camera that even has a physical privacy switch.
