Electric Vehicle (EV)

Electric vehicles (EVs) are vehicles powered entirely or partially by electricity, typically using rechargeable batteries instead of traditional internal combustion engines. They offer a cleaner, more energy-efficient alternative to petroleum vehicles, producing zero tailpipe emissions and lowering environmental impact. EVs include cars, buses, trucks, and scooters, with increasing availability as charging infrastructure expands globally. Their popularity is growing due to advancements in battery technology, government incentives, and rising concerns about climate change and fuel costs. Internationally, brands like BYD, Tesla, Volkswagen, General Motors, etc are very popular. In the case of Nepal, the former two are significant players in the market too. However, Tata is by far the most dominant brand in the EV space in Nepal with their "Xpress-T" model being used for taxis. Public vehicles are steadily converting into EVs too with Sajha Yatayat running electric buses, while the number of electric micro buses is also increasing. Furthermore, using EV as public transport is not a new concept for Nepak though as Safa Tempos have been running across the Kathmandu valley for decades now.
