Moving on, the iPhone 17 Pro is simply a mini-me of its "Pro Max" sibling. To say that the iPhone Air is Apple's most ambitious phone yet would be a massive understatement. This is the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made, as it measures just 5.64mm! The iPhone Air is also the 5th slimmest smartphone in the world... but you have to wonder... who is this for? Especially given that it sacrifices so much in pursuit of being thin and light.

But despite its slim profile, the iPhone Air is surprisingly durable. Even JerryRigEverything couldn't snap it in half with his hands, so you know Apple has done something special with its engineering. One of the reasons could be that it still has titanium frames versus aluminum on the iPhone 17 series. And of course, performance shouldn't be an issue thanks to the A19 Pro chip (with one less GPU core) and a smooth 120Hz display.

So while everyone is busy talking about the "plateau" design of the iPhone 17 Pro, or the thinness of the iPhone Air, we think the base iPhone 17 might actually be the best iPhone of the year. Especially for its value. 'Cause compared to the iPhone 16, it has a nicer display, better cameras, better performance, and better durability. I mean... what more could you possibly want?!

It also starts with 256GB of storage now, although I won't call it an upgrade since the iPhone 17's starting price has gone up as well. But yeah, the iPhone 17 definitely looks like the iPhone to get for most folks. Apple finally blessed its base iPhone with a 120Hz "ProMotion" display this time, finally shutting down the "slow 60Hz" complaint we used to have. Besides, it also enjoys new Ceramic Shield 2 glass that apparently has 3x better scratch resistance compared to the iPhone 16. The iPhone 17 upgrades to a 48MP dual camera setup at the back as well for sharper ultrawide shots, and it has the same 18MP "Center Stage" front-facing camera as its "Pro" siblings. With the more efficient A19 chip and other optimizations, Apple even rates the iPhone 17's video playback capacity at 30 hours versus 22 hours on its predecessor.
